Organization members and roles

What owners, admins, members and chat admins can do, and how seats work.

Roles

  • Owner. Can do everything, including buying or changing the plan and seats, opening the payment page, and appointing chat admins. Every organization has an owner.
  • Admin. Can edit the website, add and remove members, approve join requests, and moderate chat. An admin cannot manage billing.
  • Member. Can use the shared parts of the organization: chat rooms they have access to, the repository, and files shared in the console.
  • Chat admin. A member who has been given chat powers only. Chat admins can moderate chat, but have no billing, website or member-management powers.

Adding people

Owners and admins can add anyone who already has an account by typing their username. They can also approve a join request from the join requests list. Each person uses one seat. When the seats are full, no new person can be added until a seat is free or the plan is upgraded.

Changing roles and removing people

On the Team list in the console, owners and admins can change a role or remove a member. Only the owner can make or remove an admin. Removing someone also takes away their access to the organization's chat and repository. The person's own account is not touched.

Chat admins

On the Team list, the owner can press the chat admin button next to a member to give or take away chat powers. Owners and admins already count as chat admins.

Seats

The console dashboard shows how many seats are used. If a plan has fewer seats than members, nobody is removed, but nobody new can join.
