Password reset and changing your password
Forgot your password, or want a new one? Here is how.
If you forgot your password
- Open the log in page and press the forgot password link.
- Type the email address of your account and submit. The page always gives the same answer, whether or not the address has an account, so nobody can use it to find out who is registered.
- If the address has an account, an email arrives with a reset link. The link works for 60 minutes.
- Open the link, choose a new password of at least 8 characters, and confirm it.
- You are sent to the log in page. If you use two-factor authentication you still need your second step to log in.
If no email arrives, see the troubleshooting guide on verification and reset emails.
Changing your password while logged in
Open Password in the member menu. Enter your current password and the new one. If you use two-factor authentication you may be asked to confirm a code first.
Changing or resetting your password logs out your trusted devices, so you will be asked for a second step again on each device. It also ends any open Git sign-in.
Keep it safe
Use a long password you use nowhere else. A password manager helps. Never send your password to anyone, including support.
