Getting started and accounts
Make an account, find your way around, and see what a free account can do.
phreak.space is a members' site for hosting files, sharing photos, running organizations with their own websites and chat, and keeping code in private Git repositories. Anyone can read these help pages, search the site and download public files without an account.
Making an account
- Open the sign-up page and choose a username. It must be 3 to 32 characters long and use only lowercase letters, numbers and dashes. It cannot start or end with a dash. A few names are reserved and cannot be used.
- Enter your email address and a password of at least 8 characters, and type the password a second time.
- If you have an invite code, enter it. The code is optional. Without one you get a free account.
- Submit the form. We send you an email with a link to confirm your address. See the guide on email verification.
Your username is also your public address on the site, for example /u/yourname.
What a free account can do
- Search and download files shared by members. Free accounts wait 20 seconds before a download starts and download at a limited speed.
- Upload photos and make albums.
- Post pings, short public updates, and read the Relay. See the guide on pings and the Relay.
- Ask to join organizations and take part in their chat.
- Send and receive direct messages.
- Turn on two-factor authentication.
Hosting your own files, creating an organization and getting a personal Git repository need a paid plan or an invite code. See the guide on plans and billing and the guide on invite codes.
Finding your way around
After you log in, the left-hand menu is your member area. It has Profile, File Host, Photos, Relay, Direct Msgs, Git Repo, Invites, Billing, Password and Security. Organizations you belong to are listed below the main items, with shortcuts to their chat and website. The Vault entry appears only for accounts that can use the encrypted vault. The Admin entry appears only for site administrators.
Help is an item in the menu, and paid members also see a Support item there. At the bottom of the menu you will find links to the site, the DMCA page and these help guides.
Next steps
- Add a short bio and a profile picture. See the guide on profiles and your bio.
- Turn on two-factor authentication. See the guide on two-factor authentication.
- Read the upload rules before you upload anything.
