Chat admins and moderation
What chat admins can do, in what order, and what a moderated person sees.
Chat admins are the organization's owner, its admins and any member the owner has made a chat admin. Click a person's name in chat to open their panel. Everything a chat admin does is recorded in the audit log.
What you can do
- Mute a person in a room for a number of minutes, or until you lift it. They can read but not write.
- Ban a person from a room. They no longer enter it. You can lift a ban.
- Stop them receiving the room (force-deafen). They get no messages from that room but can still write. You can lift it.
- Move a person to another room. This works for people who are on a room list, such as invite-only members and guests.
- Turn chat off for the person in this organization. This is stronger than a mute or a ban, and you can turn it back on.
- Delete a message.
- Add or remove people in rooms, and invite registered users.
- Change a room's name, archive it, allow guests to speak, and narrow who can enter. Only the owner and admins can open a room to guests or make one public.
A reason you type is kept in the audit log.
Who can act on whom
- Nobody acts on themselves or on the owner.
- Only the owner acts on an organization admin.
- A chat admin cannot act on another chat admin or on an admin.
- An organization admin can act on a chat admin.
If a person is muted, banned or force-deafened, leaving the room does not remove the restriction.
Reports
Any member can report a message in chat. Reports go to the site's moderators, who see the reported text. See the guide on reporting content.
