I cannot log in

Step-by-step fixes when your username, password or second step is not accepted.

Work through these steps in order.

Check the username. Use your username, not your display name. Your account email address works here too. It uses only lowercase letters, numbers and dashes.
Check the password. Type it slowly, and check that Caps Lock is off. If a password manager fills it in, check that it chose the right entry.
Wait if you tried many times. Too many tries in a short time are slowed down. Wait a few minutes and try again.
Reset the password. Use the forgot password link on the log in page. See the guide on password reset. If no email arrives, see the guide on missing emails.
If you reach a code page, you have two-factor authentication. Use the code from your authenticator app, an emailed code, or a recovery code. Codes from an app need your phone's clock to be correct. If none of that works, see the guide on being locked out of two-factor.
Suspended accounts cannot log in. If your account has been suspended and you think it is a mistake, a paid account can send a support ticket. Free accounts have no support channel yet, and the site does not publish a contact address for this.

Never share your password or codes with anyone while trying to fix this, including support.
