Reporting content and the DMCA process

How to report a photo, a message or a shared vault item, and how copyright takedown notices are handled.

Reporting

  • A photo. Use the report button on the photo's page. If several different people report the same photo, it is hidden while a moderator reviews it.
  • A chat or direct message. Use the report link on the message and choose a reason. A moderator sees a copy of the reported text. In encrypted conversations only the reported message is revealed, and the server checks that it is genuine.
  • A ping or pong. Use the Report button on it and choose a reason. A moderator sees a copy of the text. See the guide on pings and the Relay.
  • A vault item shared with you. Use the Report button on the shared item or the link page.
  • Anything else. Paid members can send a support ticket. See the guide on support.

Moderators can remove content, hide it, and suspend accounts. Sexually explicit material and anything sexual involving minors is removed, and the second kind is reported to the authorities.

Copyright and the DMCA form

phreak.space responds to valid notices under 17 U.S.C. § 512. If you own a copyright, or act for the owner, and believe material here infringes, use the DMCA takedown form. The link is in the footer of every page.

  1. Fill in the form with your name and contact details, a description of the work, and the addresses (URLs) of the material on phreak.space, one per line. You must state that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized, that your notice is accurate, and that you act for the owner, under penalty of perjury. Type your full name as your signature.
  2. After you submit you get a reference number. Keep it.
  3. We review the notice. If it is complete, we remove or disable access to the material. Incomplete notices may be returned for more information.
  4. The person who uploaded it may be told about the notice, and can file a counter-notice if they believe the removal was a mistake.
  5. If a valid counter-notice arrives and you do not tell us within 10 to 14 business days that you have started a court action, the material may be restored.

Members who repeatedly infringe have their accounts closed. Knowingly lying in a notice can make you liable for damages. If you are unsure, talk to a lawyer first. Your name and contact details may be shared with the uploader.

If your content was removed

If you think a removal was a mistake, paid members can send a support ticket. For a copyright removal you may file a counter-notice as described above.

Still stuck? Paid members can ask the support assistant or send a ticket from their account. Everyone can use the DMCA form for copyright notices.
